Caskets by Design is a small, family-owned and operated business based in Langlois, Oregon. We are run by husband-and-wife team Mike and Terri Hurley, with occasional help from their son Jeff. Mike handles the woodworking with decades of experience, while Terri manages sales, shipping, and customer service. Every casket is handcrafted in our Pacific Northwest workshop using quality domestic woods.

Our prices start at just $799 for a simple pine box and typically range from $1,300–$3,600+ depending on style, wood type (pine, alder, cedar, etc.), and custom options. We offer factory-direct pricing with no middleman markups, helping families save hundreds or thousands compared to traditional funeral home prices.

Yes! We welcome custom requests including different sizes (standard or oversized), wood combinations, lid styles, handle types, stains, interior fabrics, and special designs (e.g., cowboy, eco-friendly, or fully personalized). Contact us to discuss your needs—we can usually accommodate most requests.

We primarily use high-quality domestic woods such as Pine, Alder, and various Cedars (Tennessee Red, Port Orford White, Western Red). All materials are responsibly sourced, and we offer both softwoods and hardwoods with natural oil or polyacrylic finishes.

Many caskets are in stock and ready to ship. Pre-orders can often be completed in as little as 3 days. Average delivery time via truck freight is 3–7 business days to the lower 48 states. We’ll call you after ordering to schedule delivery.

We ship via truck freight to the contiguous 48 U.S. states. Shipping is often free to business addresses (including funeral homes) on many in-stock models, with residential delivery available for an additional fee. Free local delivery within a 50-mile radius of Langlois, Oregon. We deliver directly to homes (where possible), funeral homes, or businesses.

Absolutely. In fact, many customers choose this option. Under the FTC Funeral Rule, funeral homes must accept third-party caskets and cannot charge you a handling fee for using one purchased elsewhere.

Yes. We offer eco-friendly options with minimal hardware, biodegradable materials, and natural finishes. Many of our cedar and pine models work well for green burials—please let us know your requirements when ordering.

Standard interior dimensions are approximately 78–82" long × 22" wide (comfortable for most adults up to about 6'4"). We also build oversized caskets for larger individuals—contact us for details and pricing.

All caskets come custom interior-ready. We provide a standard off-white liner, with many other fabric colors and styles available. You can choose your preferred lining at the time of order.

Yes. Our caskets are used for traditional funerals, viewings, wakes, cremation containers, and natural burials. They are also popular for pet caskets and special projects (TV, film, theater, Halloween props).

Because each casket is custom-made or prepared specifically for you, we generally do not accept returns. Cancellations are possible if made quickly before production/shipping—please contact us immediately. We stand behind our craftsmanship and will address any quality concerns promptly.
